Coupon Clarity: Albertsons Twice The Value Coupons (AKA Doublers) And Overage?

Most folks know that Albertsons recently changed their coupon policy and in that change started allowing what we all know of as "Overage".  Overage is when a coupon is worth more then what the price of the item is, for example:  You have a $1.00/1 coupon for Mentos and Albertsons has them on sale for 98¢.  Albertsons will now give you the full $1.00 off, so you get the gum and an additional 02¢ applied toward the rest of the items in your transaction.

Good stuff, this Overage :)  But, what if you have a $1.00 coupon and an Albertsons doubler for an item that is priced at less then $2.00, will you still get the Overage?

Now, things start getting tricky.  The feedback is all over the board on this and unfortunately, the new coupon policy does not address this particular situation, so no help there!  Some people have told us that they got Overage when combining a Manufacturers coupon with an Albertsons Twice the Value coupon.  Others have said it was a no-go, their cashiers adjusted the doubler down so that the item was free, but no Overage.  In some cases, both scenarios happened at the same store, only adding to the confusion on what the proper procedure really is.

Fortunately, the gals over at Fabulessly Frugal got to the bottom of this and have the official word on this issue.  You probably won't like it though.

Officially, Overage is NOT allowed when combining Manufacturers coupons with doublers.  This does make sense, Albertsons is already giving us up to $3.00 per transaction with every transaction we use doublers in, and it would not be fiscally sound to go ahead and give even more away.  This is not to say that there are not plenty of opportunities to get stuff for FREE with doublers though, you just won't, and shouldn't expect to get any overage.

What are Albertsons Twice the Value (aka Doublers?)

These are Albertsons store coupons that will double the value of a Manufacturers coupon up to $1.00.

Where can I find Albertsons Doublers?

They usually come out on every other Sunday and are valid for three days.  Sometimes they will issue them in the weekly flyer as well, though we have not seen that in a very long time. 

Can I do multiple transactions?

Most stores will allow you to do three transaction in a row.  After that, it's to the back of the line!

Where can I get more doublers?

Well, we used to be able to get a few extra doublers at the customer service counters, then Albertsons stopped shipping them out to the stores :(  Now, if we need more doublers we have to either buy more papers, or hit up or friends and neighbors for their doublers (if they don't care to use them)  BTW, this is also a good way to get extra inserts too :) 

What is the best way to use my doublers?

This part is easy!  Take advantage of the extra savings by following the same simple strategy of combining the sales with coupons :)  Just stack those Albertsons doublers with your manufacturers coupons and take that "Twice the Value" being offered to increase your savings!

Albertsons: All Manufacturers Coupons Will Be Worth A $1.00!

My neighbor gave me her Pinch this morning and look at what Albertsons is doing this week!  Starting tomorrow (1/25)  all manufacturers coupons will be rounded up to $1.00!! 

I think this is going to work out really well with the Buy 10 Save $5.00 promo that starts on Wednesday as well, I'm already excited about getting Pace Picante Sauce for 99¢ a jar!

This is hovering right around my stock up price for Tuna.  I prefer to get it for less, but with the way prices have been going up lately, this might be as good as it gets for the time being!

Albertsons: Score on Pantene (And A Shout Out To The Coupon Fairy!)

My head wasn't really all that wrapped around Albertsons doubler shopping this week and I did put it off to the very last moment. All I really wanted was the Star Olive Oil  and a couple bottles of Coffee Creamer anyway, so this turned out to be a really pleasant surprise when I met the sweetest coupon fairy :) 

This cute little gal - with a very well organized coupon binder - pointed out that certain Pantene Products were clearanced for $2.14 each.  I only had one of the $3.00/2 Pantene MFs that we got this weekend and God bless her, she gave me 3 more!  How nice is that?  So we chatted a little bit and she was showing me a few of the other deals she was getting, this savvy shopper has totally embraced the new Albertsons coupon policy and was making the most of it.  I was very impressed with her ability to work out transactions on the fly like that...that has never been my strong suit!

So, I got 8 cans of Pantene Hairspray @ $2.14 each = $17.12
Tax = $1.49
- $12.00 ($3.00/2  x 4 MFs from the 1/1 P&G)
= $6.61

I received 2 $1.00 OYNOs!  If I would have had my head on, I would have grabbed another one and used one of the $1.00/1 home mailer coupons with a doubler.  It would have only added another 14¢ to my total and I would have gotten another $1.00 OYNO...but I didn't.  I'm pretty happy with getting 8 cans of Hairspray for 82¢ each, and $2.00 in manufacturer OYNOs that I plan on using on Friday at the Yoke's Breakfast Sale :)

Another SWEET Albertsons Doubler Deal! {Can You Say Money Maker :) }

I think everybody is loving Albertsons new coupon policy!  In case you missed this, check out this MONEY MAKER of a deal scoped out by Frugal Chic Living!

Scenario:
Buy 3 Kikkoman Soy Sauce @ $1.19 each
- $1.00/1 Printable coupon from Facebook x 3
- $1.00/1 Albertsons Doublers x 3
= $2.43 in the blessed Overage!  Remember, Albertsons won't give you the money back (like Walmart) but they will apply the overage to the rest of your transaction, so get a gallon of Milk...a package of Hamburger...something that an extra $2.43 toward would really help on!

Bonus...when you buy 3 Kikkoman products, you will get a $2.00 OYNO!  Even if you don't have the Doublers to spare, when you factor in the OYNO, it works out to 52¢ per bottle which is pretty darn decent :)

To be completely honest, it has been a long time since I had to buy diapers so I am out of the loop when it comes to figuring out what is a good deal.  But, this one seems all right :)  Diaper coupons were extremely rare when I was buying them and I remember being happy when I could pick up a box for under $10.00! 

Albertsons has Huggies Jumbo Diapers, Pull-ups and Goodnights on sale for $9.49 a box, and when you buy 2, you will receive a $5.00 OYNO! 

Here is the scenario:

Buy 2 Huggies Pull-Ups @ $9.49 each = $18.98
- $2.00/1 Printable coupon  x 2 (use zip code 99218)
= $14.98
Get back a $5.00 OYNO!  This works out to $9.98 for both packages, or just $4.99 each! 

Roll this into another transaction and it looks like this:
2 Huggies @ $9.49 = $18.98
- $2.00/1 Printable coupon x 2
- $5.00 OYNO from previous order
= $9.98
Get back another $5.00 OYNO! This time it works out to $2.49 for each package! 

Remember, coupons.com allows you to print each coupon twice per computer, so call up your friends, family and coupon buddies to get a few more!

Albertsons: Updated Coupon Policy!

When I hear the words "Updated Coupon Policy" I tend to cringe, because it seems that so many stores are tightening up their belts when it comes to using coupons.   Well, I am happy to report this is not the case this time with Albertsons.    You can check out the new policy here, but these exciting changes will make our lives so much easier and make Albertsons such a fun place to coupon shop!

"Coupons that exceed the retail value of an item will have the remaining amount applied to the balance of the transaction. In the event a transaction balance results in a "credit", additional items WILL be added/suggested to the order to utilize the remaining value of the coupon. We will not provide any "cash back" on coupons; however we will provide full redemption value."  YAY,  this means OVERAGE! 

"Albertsons offers of Buy One, Get One Free (BOGO) promotions in their weekly advertisement can be combined with Buy One, Get One Free manufacturer coupons to result in BOTH items being Free. The items in the manufacturer coupon must exactly match our weekly advertisement offers and meet the redemption criteria."  FREE FREE FREE! 



It's always a good idea to keep an update coupon policy in your binder in the event you ever come across a confused cashier.   It happens every now and then. :)
